At the same time, profitable bootstrapped companies are thriving.
The future of SaaS and Non-Deep/Hard-Tech startups is this: highly efficient bootstrapped small teams or even solo founders and indie makers.
Having too much money while building your startup is like going to a gym with fake weights. You lift them, and it all looks good, but you gain no muscles.
To build great stuff for the users, the business must be funded by users. In this case your whole focus is on the users, not on your next round and VC/Journalist.
I’ve done and still run both VC-funded startups and bootstrapped. So I know both worlds really well.
In today’s world, I believe the best startups will be bootstrapped and use VC money for growth after PMF.
We will see many bootstrapped founders opting for alternatives, too: community rounds, cheap loans, and pre-sales. I actually want to try all three eventually.
An even better option is to run a Holdco with sole simple cash cow projects that bring in money every month and then act as your own VC when needed. That’s what I do, building 24 projects for busy founders in my Holdco.
99% of VC-funded founders I know went out of business (200+ startups).
I don’t know a single bootstrapped founder above $10k MRR who went out of business.
Most are growing or selling for a good sum.
